Volkswagen Eos vs. Ford Mustang
2008 Volkswagen Eos Overview
As one of the few hardtop convertibles in the world, the 2008 Volkswagen Eos is a unique luxury vehicle that
offers unparalleled open-air thrills.
Now in its second year, the Eos has four revised trim levels - Turbo, Komfort, Lux, and VR6. The first three
trims share the same 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower which provides entertaining acceleration, mated to crisp 6-speed manual
transmission or a 6-speed DSG® manumatic transmission with Tiptronic® for smooth, rapid-fire shifts. VR6 models sport a 3.2 liter VR6 engine,
making a lusty 250 horsepower with the DSG® transmission standard. All models have front-wheel drive, which provides good traction in all weather
conditions.
The Eos is the world’s first hardtop convertible with a sunroof, and with the touch of a button hides in the
trunk in only 25 seconds. New standard interior amenities include a 12-way power driver’s seat (except Turbo models) to help find that perfect
seating position, a wind blocker to keep the cabin serene during top-down cruising, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, parking brake, and
shift knob.
Safety features include dual front airbags and dual seat-mounted side airbags to protect passengers in a
collision. Standard anti-lock brakes prevent wheel lockup and the vehicle from losing traction under hard braking. Standard Anti-slip Regulation
helps to deny wheel slippage at all speeds to maximize balance and equal traction. The available Adaptive Front Lighting System comes with
Bi-Xenon™ headlamps, turning up to 15 degrees in the direction you’re headed while at freeway speeds and illuminating the road better than
standard halogen lamps. Automatic Rollover Protection is standard, featuring two hidden steel beams underneath the headrests. As soon as a
rollover is detected, they quickly deploy to minimize the risk of injury.
The 2008 Volkswagen Eos is a safe, stylish, and sexy hardtop convertible that offers refinement and driving
dynamics usually reserved for more expensive German drop-tops.
Ford Mustang & Volkswagen Eos Comparison
Handling
The Ford Mustang's rear-wheel drive layout likely gives it better dry traction than the Volkswagen Eos; on the
flip side, the Volkswagen Eos's front-wheel drive layout likely provides better traction in rain, snow or ice. With their comparable turning
circles, the Mustang and the Volkswagen Eos quite certainly handle roughly the same into and out of tight spots.
Drivetrain
The Volkswagen Eos's engine is tremendously smaller than the Ford Mustang's. Keep in mind that smaller engines
can be stressed more; on the flip side, smaller engines typically get better gas mileage. Torque is roughly equivalent to acceleration, and in
this respect, the Mustang is significantly more powerful than the Eos.
Utility
Neither the Mustang nor the Volkswagen Eos has a marked advantage regarding seating capacity.
Convenience
The Ford Mustang's fuel tank will need to be replenished a little more often than the unit in the Volkswagen
Eos.
Comfort
Taller drivers will quite a bit enjoy the extra head room in the Ford Mustang's front cabin compared to the
Volkswagen Eos.
Dimensions
The Volkswagen is slightly more ponderous than the Ford Mustang. The Volkswagen Eos's tank is about the same
size as the Ford Mustang's, though the Ford Mustang's is somewhat more capacious. The Volkswagen Eos and the Ford compete for the same parking
spaces.
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. The Volkswagen Eos is substantially cheaper to get to the dealership than the Ford Mustang. The Ford Mustang pales in comparison to the
Volkswagen Eos when it comes to gas mileage. The Ford Mustang will tax your gas budget considerably more than the Volkswagen Eos will. The
Mustang is considerably less costly than the Volkswagen Eos regarding MSRP.
Overview
The basic after-sale protection that comes with the Ford Mustang isn't quite as generous as the Volkswagen
Eos's.
