Honda Civic vs. Ford Mustang
Honda Civic Overview
Considered by many to be the benchmark of the compact car segment, the 2008 Honda Civic spans the gamut from
fuel-efficient family hauler to scorching pocket rocket.
Five distinct models are available - Civic sedan and coupe, high-performance Civic Si sedan and coupe, and Civic Hybrid sedan. In
addition, approved Honda dealers in California and New York carry a Civic GX that is powered by natural gas. Engine choices include a
powerful, yet efficient 140 horsepower 4-cylinder engine, and a high-revving 197 horsepower 4-cylinder engine in Civic Si models. A
smooth-shifting 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission is available, with the Si sporting a short-throw 6-speed manual
transmission.
Interior options are numerous, with an available 350-watt AM/FM CD audio system with 7 speakers, providing
excellent acoustic clarity. An optional Honda Satellite-linked Navigation System™ with Voice Recognition provides driving directions and accurate
maps. Heated leather front seats are available on EX-L models. With a flat rear floor, the Civic can hold 5 passengers comfortably. Si models add
red backlit gauges, sport seats, a rear wing spoiler, 17" alloy wheels, and exclusive badging, setting it apart from the crowd.
Safety features are abundant in the Civic. Standard dual front airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain
airbags protect all passengers in the event of a collision. An anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution is standard, adding
braking power and preventing the wheels from locking up on slippery surfaces. The tire pressure monitoring system alerts the driver when pressure
reaches a significantly low level.
Slip into the seat of the 2008 Honda Civic and you’ll be treated to a refined driving experience that expertly
balances performance, efficiency, and legendary reliability.
Ford Mustang & Honda Civic Comparison
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. The Civic is considerably cheaper to get to the dealership than the Ford. Producing a precise gas mileage evaluation is so tricky that
some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though the Honda Civic is the winner with respect to gas mileage. The Ford
Mustang guzzles a lot of gas compared to the Honda Civic. When it comes to MSRP, the Mustang costs tremendously more than the Honda. The Honda
Civic is tremendously less expensive than the Ford Mustang with respect to final cost. The Honda Civic will save you a bundle at the pump every
year compared to the Ford.
Utility
Drivers with frequent child-duty might favor the Honda over the Ford Mustang.
Convenience
You'll doubtless have to take the Ford Mustang for a fill-up more often than the Honda Civic because of its
tank size and fuel economy.
Comfort
While the front cabin in the Honda Civic offers a bit more head room than the Ford Mustang, there really isn't
much of a difference. The ampler interior dimensions of the Civic make it significantly more spacious for your passengers than the Ford
Mustang.
Dimensions
The Ford Mustang is substantially more ponderous than the Honda Civic. Your wallet will hurt more every time
you fill up the Ford Mustang than the Honda Civic because of its larger tank. The Honda Civic and the Ford compete for the same parking
spaces.
Performance
The Honda Civic is likely to feel a little sluggish because of its high horsepower-to-weight ratio. With that
kind of horsepower, the Ford Mustang is a genuine speedster. With its super low horsepower-to-weight ratio, the Ford Mustang will knock you back
into your seat when you accelerate.
Handling
The Ford Mustang's rear-wheel drive layout likely gives it better dry traction than the Honda Civic; however,
the Honda Civic's front-wheel drive layout likely provides better traction in rain, snow or ice. The Ford Mustang has considerably bigger tires
than the Honda Civic. Keep in mind that bigger tires might look and feel better, while narrower tires could improve gas mileage. With their
similar turning radiuses, the Honda Civic and the Ford Mustang indubitably handle about the same into and out of tight spots.
Drivetrain
The Ford Mustang has a more sizeable engine than the Honda Civic. Keep in mind that smaller engines typically
get better gas mileage, but a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder. The Honda Civic could learn a lesson or two from the Ford
Mustang regarding pickup. Torque is roughly equivalent to acceleration, and in this respect, the Ford is tremendously more powerful than the
Honda Civic.
Overview
The Honda Civic and the Ford Mustang have the same basic after-sale protection.
Other
The Mustang emits fewer smog-forming pollutants per 15,000 miles than the Honda Civic.
