Porsche 911 vs. Ford Mustang
Porsche 911 Overview
How do you describe one of the most legendary nameplates in automotive history? Breathtaking, powerful,
dramatic, and sensual are just a few adjectives to describe the multi-faceted 2008 Porsche 911. The quintessential sports coupe offers multiple
variations of the classic shape, from coupes to convertibles. A notable addition to the stable this year is the new Turbo Cabriolet, which is
also the most expensive model in the lineup.
The 911 has a total of 14 distinct models in its stable, including the Carrera coupe and cabriolet, the Carrera
S coupe and cabriolet, the all-wheel drive Carrera 4S coupe and cabriolet, the glass-roof, removable top Targa 4 and 4S – all which offer a
choice of a 3.6 or 3.8 liter flat 6-cylinder engines producing 325 and 355 horsepower, respectively. The ultra-powerful 911 Turbo coupe or
all-new cabriolet offer a scintillating 480 horespower from a twin-turbo 3.6 liter 6-cylinder engine. The race-ready 911 GT3 and GT3 RS offer
track-ready performance and 415 horsepower as the most hardcore versions of the current 911. All models feature a 6-speed manual transmission or
a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission that actually supplies quicker acceleration times than the manual. The optional boost-enhancing Sport Chrono
Turbo package increases torque in turbo models and supplies even more thrust.
Safety features across the board include dual front airbags, a new Porsche Side Impact Protection system with
two side airbags in each front seat, and side curtain airbags. The brakes are among the best in the business, with a standard Anti-lock braking
system, 4-piston monobloc fixed alloy calipers and 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and amazing optional Porsce Ceramic Composite Brakes, which
imbue the 911 with unsurpassed braking power and control on the roadway or the racetrack. An available Bi-Xenon lighting system with headlight
leveling and washer system creates greater illumination than the standard halogen bulbs while using less power. Standard Porsche Stability
Management uses a range of sensors and Automatic Brake Differential and Anti-Slip Regulation to maintain traction and stability during evasive
maneuvers.
Inside, 911 models feature standard automatic full climate control, an available BOSE® Surround Sound System
and 6-disc CD autochanger for amazing sound quality, and the standard Porsche Communication Management system, which integrates the stereo
system, trip computer, and available GPS navigation system. Dual power front seats with leather upholstery add luxury and comfort, while optional
ParkAssist uses ultrasonic sensors to gauge the distance of obstacles behind the car.
Combining refinement, innovation, a legendary reputation for speed, the 2008 Porsche 911 is a true automotive
icon that continues to evolve and transform into a more formidable sportscar.
Ford Mustang & Porsche 911 Comparison
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the Ford Mustang to the dealership as the Porsche 911. The Ford Mustang doesn't pale in comparison to
the Porsche 911 regarding gas mileage. As far as fuel economy, the Porsche is a bit better than the Ford, but not by much. There really isn't
much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the Ford Mustang is a little more economical than the Porsche 911. With respect
to gas mileage, the Ford Mustang and the Porsche 911 don't differ much. When it comes to MSRP, the Ford Mustang costs tremendously less than the
Porsche 911. As far as final price, the Porsche 911 costs tremendously more than the Ford Mustang.
Utility
Neither the Ford Mustang nor the Porsche 911 has a marked advantage with respect to seating
capacity.
Convenience
The Ford Mustang's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the Porsche 911. You'll
quite certainly have to take the Ford Mustang for a fill-up more often than the Porsche 911 because of its tank size and gas mileage.
Comfort
While the front cabin in the Ford Mustang offers a bit more head room than the Porsche 911, there honestly
isn't much of a difference.
Dimensions
The Ford Mustang is somewhat more ponderous than the Porsche. The Ford Mustang's tank is roughly the same size
as the Porsche 911's, though the Porsche 911's is a bit larger. The 911 and the Ford Mustang compete for the same parking spaces. The Porsche
911's shorter wheelbase will give a nimbler feel in daily traffic. However, the Ford Mustang is likely to have a smoother, more stable
ride.
Performance
With that kind of horsepower, both the Ford Mustang and the Porsche 911 are genuine sportscars.
Handling
The Porsche 911 has substantially wider tires than the Mustang. Keep in mind that wider tires might improve
handling, while smaller tires could improve gas mileage. With their comparable turning circles, the Porsche 911 and the Ford Mustang very likely
handle approximately the same into and out of tight spots.
Drivetrain
The Ford Mustang's engine is significantly larger than the Porsche 911's. Note that bigger engines may use more
gas than smaller ones. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Ford Mustang isn't much more powerful than
the Porsche 911.
Overview
The basic warranty that comes with the Ford Mustang isn't quite as generous as the Porsche 911's.
