Pontiac G6 vs. Ford Mustang
Pontiac G6 Overview
The 2008 Pontiac G6 is beefed up this year thanks to new GXP coupe and sedan models, which offer scintillating
performance and stylish body kits.
Available as a sedan, coupe, or convertible, the G6 offers an array of trim levels and powerful engines. The
2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine with 164 horsepower delivers good fuel economy and peppy acceleration with a 4-speed automatic transmission. A trio
of V6 engines are available, with GXP models sporting a 3.6 liter V6 making a robust 252 horsepower for solid pulling power and smooth shifts
with a 6-speed automatic featuring Driver Shift Control, allowing you to change gears with the flick of your wrist.
The innovative G6 convertible features a one-touch retractable hardtop for open-air fun and innovative double-bulb seats to enjoy
top-down motoring to the fullest. The new, high-performance GXP models include sport-tuned suspensions for sharper handling, 18-inch alloy
wheels, and stylish body kits that are unique to either the coupe or sedan.
Standard safety features include the StabiliTrak Dynamic Control System to help maintain composure during
evasive maneuvers. The available Traction Control System helps to prevent wheel spin during acceleration. Standard 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes
increase stopping power and help to prevent wheel lockup. All G6 models feature dual-stage frontal and side-impact airbags and head curtain
side-impact airbags (not available on convertible) to protect front and rear seat passengers in a collision.
Major interior amenities include an AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer, graphic equalizer, and
auxiliary input jack for your iPod® or MP3 player. Available XM® Radio offers a wide selection of commercial-free channels. The available Premium
Package includes front bucket leather-appointed seats, 6-way power driver seat adjuster, heated driver and front-passenger seats, remote vehicle
starter system, cargo nets, front and rear carpeted floor mats, and power-adjustable pedals.
Fluid lines, ample power, and aggressive styling make the 2008 Pontiac G6 an entertaining car that will please
everyone from families to hard-core enthusiasts.
Ford Mustang & Pontiac G6 Comparison
Utility
The Pontiac will quite certainly prove friendlier than the Ford Mustang for those of you with frequent
child-cargo.
Performance
In terms of horsepower, the Ford Mustang packs quite a wallop and will knock the Pontiac G6 down a few rungs.
On the other hand, keep in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.
Dimensions
The Ford Mustang and the Pontiac compete for the same parking spaces.
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. It costs approximately the same to get the Pontiac G6 to the dealership as the Ford. When it comes to MSRP, the Pontiac G6 costs
substantially less than the Ford Mustang.
Handling
With its rear-wheel drive layout, the Ford Mustang likely has better weight distribution than the Pontiac G6;
on the other hand, the Pontiac G6's front-wheel drive layout likely provides better traction in rain, snow or ice. The Ford Mustang and the
Pontiac G6 have about comparable tires. With their similar turning circles, the Ford Mustang and the Pontiac most definitely handle roughly the
same into and out of tight spots.
Drivetrain
The Ford Mustang has a larger engine than the Pontiac G6. Note that smaller engines are often cheaper to fix,
but smaller engines can be stressed more. Torque equals pickup, and the Ford Mustang will have picked up and gone by the time the Pontiac G6
finally gets moving. The Ford Mustang packs quite a wallop compared to the Pontiac G6 in terms of torque, which is the force that lets you
accelerate quickly.
Comfort
While the front cabin in the Pontiac G6 offers a bit more head room than the Ford Mustang, there frankly isn't
much of a difference. The Pontiac provides more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Ford Mustang does.
Overview
The Pontiac G6 and the Ford Mustang have the same basic warranty.
