Honda Accord vs. Ford Mustang
2008 Honda Accord Overview
Undergoing a total redesign this year, the all-new 2008 Honda Accord is larger, sexier, and more powerful than
ever. Available as a full-size sedan or rakish coupe, the Accord is much more upscale and luxurious than its predecessor.
The Accord Sedan is available in six trim levels, while the sleek Accord Coupe comes in four trim levels. Two powerful engines
are available, starting with two variations of the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder - one with 177 horsepower in LX models, the other with 190
horsepower in EX models. Either version can be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission for quick acceleration or a 5-speed automatic
transmission with Grade Logic Control that optimizes shifts on climbs and descents. The most powerful engine ever offered in the Accord, the
3.5 liter V6 pumps out 268 horsepower with either a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission or the aforementioned 5-speed automatic, which
features Variable Cylinder Management. VCM® shuts down one bank of engine cylinders while cruising to maximize fuel savings. The standard
double wishbone front suspension provides predictable cornering feel and a smooth, stable ride.
New interior amenities include an available satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition and up to
8 gigabytes of memory for excellent maps and directions. The optional Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® allows hands-free calling with a compatible cell
phone. Models equipped with the optional 6-disc CD changer feature a multi-function controller and MP3/WMA playback capability for hours of
digital music playback.
Safety features are more diverse, including dual stage, dual threshold front airbags, front side airbags with
occupant position detection, and available side curtain airbags. All models feature standard 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes to help prevent wheel
lockup and retail steering control under hard braking. Standard Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control helps to maintain control if wheel
slippage is detected, applying brake power or reducing power to restore the intended direction.
Retaining the essential Honda essence of quality and attention to detail, the new 2008 Honda Accord is an
evolutionary leap in terms of power, size, and sophistication.
Ford Mustang & Honda Accord Comparison
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. The Honda is markedly cheaper to get to the dealership than the Mustang. The Ford Mustang will tax your gas budget substantially more
than the Honda Accord will. As far as gas mileage, the Honda Accord has the Ford Mustang beat. The Honda Accord isn't much less expensive than
the Ford regarding MSRP. Regarding purchase price, the Ford Mustang costs considerably more than the Honda.
Utility
The Accord will doubtless prove more convenient than the Mustang for those of you with frequent
kid-cargo.
Convenience
You'll doubtless have to take the Ford Mustang for a fill-up more often than the Honda Accord because of its
tank size and fuel economy.
Comfort
Taller drivers will significantly enjoy the extra head room in the Honda Accord's front cabin compared to the
Ford Mustang. The Honda Accord provides more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Ford Mustang does.
Dimensions
The Mustang is a little more ponderous than the Honda Accord. The Mustang's tank is about the same size as the
Honda Accord's, though the Honda Accord's is somewhat larger. The Ford and the Honda Accord compete for the same parking spaces.
Performance
With that kind of horsepower, the Ford Mustang is a full-blown speedster.
Handling
With its rear-wheel drive layout, the Ford Mustang likely has better dry traction than the Honda; on the other
hand, the Honda's front-wheel drive layout likely provides better traction in rain, snow or ice. The Ford Mustang has markedly wider tires than
the Honda Accord. Note that bigger tires may improve handling, while narrower tires may provide better handling in deep snow. With their similar
turning radiuses, the Honda and the Ford most definitely handle approximately the same into and out of tight spots.
Drivetrain
The Ford Mustang's engine is substantially more sizeable than the Honda Accord's. Keep in mind that bigger
engines may use more gas than smaller ones. The Ford Mustang packs quite a wallop compared to the Honda Accord when it comes to torque, which is
roughly equivalent to acceleration.
Overview
The Honda Accord and the Ford Mustang have the same basic warranty.
