BMW M6 vs. Ford Mustang
2008 BMW M6 Overview
Available as an athletic coupe or gorgeous convertible, the 2008 BMW M6 is an exhilarating grand touring machine that offers
absolute comfort and amazing performance.
The unrelenting power of the 5.0 liter V10 engine is undeniable, with 500 horsepower for eye-popping acceleration. The standard
7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox with Drivelogic provides quick shifts through all the gears via the steering wheel paddle shifters or
selector lever. The optional 6-speed manual transmission lets the driver rip through the gears, reveling in the sonic masterpiece of the
engine’s throaty burble. In the M6 coupe, the lightweight carbon-fiber roof shifts the physical center of gravity of the car further down
than the weight of a normal steel roof. In the M6 convertible, a fully-lined power softtop roof with heated glass rear window makes
top-down motoring a wonderfully easy affair.
The standard Logic7 audio system uses 13 speakers, an auxiliary audio input for your iPod®, MP3 playback, and an optional 6-disc
CD changer for hours of concert-like sound quality. The standard Navigation System features voice feedback and command, detailed maps and
directions, and Real Time Traffic to help guide you through your journeys. The 16-way Merino Leather-covered seats with 4-way lumbar
support and three-stage heating are the perfect compliment to a long journey or quick runabout.
Standard 4-wheel ventilated, cross-drilled anti-lock compound disc brakes offer major-league stopping power and prevent lockup.
Standard dual front airbags, front door-mounted side-impact airbags, and front seat head curtain airbags offer superior passenger
protection in a collision. Adaptive Brake Lights increase in brightness as brake pedal pressure is increased. Standard Dynamic Stability
Control with M Dynamic Mode combines with All-Season Traction Control to offer confident, controlled handling in emergency maneuvers and
minimal wheel slip in adverse weather conditions.
Catering to the luxury desires and sporting pretensions of well-to-do buyers, the 2008 BMW M6 offers exceptional beauty and
world-class performance.
Ford Mustang & BMW M6 ComparisonUtility
The Ford Mustang and the BMW M6 can accommodate the same number of passengers.
Performance
When it comes to horsepower, the M6 packs quite a wallop and will knock the Mustang down a few rungs. On the
flip side, remember that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums. With that kind of horsepower, the BMW M6 is a true
sportscar.
Dimensions
The M6 is quite a bit heavier than the Ford Mustang. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the M6
than the Mustang because of its bigger tank. The Ford Mustang and the BMW M6 compete for the same parking spaces.
Convenience
You will definitely have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the BMW M6 than with the Ford
Mustang.
Cost
As far as fuel economy, the Ford has the BMW M6 beat. The BMW M6 will tax your gas budget markedly more than
the Mustang will. The Ford will save you a bunch of money at the pump every year compared to the M6. The BMW M6 will cost you a bunch of money in
gas every year compared to the Ford.
Handling
The BMW M6 has markedly bigger tires than the Ford Mustang. Note that wider tires could improve handling, while
smaller tires might provide better handling in deep snow. With its tighter turning circle, the Mustang is doubtless more agile than the BMW M6,
something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, note that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the
highway.
Drivetrain
The BMW M6 has a more sizeable engine than the Ford Mustang. Remember that smaller engines are often cheaper to
fix, but smaller engines can be stressed more. Torque equals pickup, and the BMW M6 will have picked up and gone by the time the Ford Mustang
finally gets moving. Torque is roughly equivalent to acceleration, and in this respect, the BMW M6 is tremendously more powerful than the Ford
Mustang. Because the BMW's maximum torque is reached at high RPMs, you'll have to shift gears a lot, especially when passing.
Comfort
While the front cabin in the Mustang offers a bit more head room than the M6, there honestly isn't much of a
difference. While the rear of the Mustang offers a bit more head- and leg-room than the BMW M6, there really isn't much of a
difference.
